When building a social media platform for your business, it’s all too easy to fill in the bio information quickly, ticking it off your checklist while trying to juggle 20,000 other jobs that need doing.
And while this behavior is commonplace, it certainly isn’t best practice. While it might seem like a throwaway job that “just needs doing,” your Instagram bio is one of the first touchpoints with potential clients or customers, and therefore it is critical you spend more time crafting something of quality.
Here, we will look at why a good Instagram bio is important and give you some inspiration from recent guests on the Foundr Podcast–AKA you, just a little further down the line.
Why Is a Good Instagram Bio Important?
Before we start listing excellent things to include in your Instagram bio, we should probably explain why it’s so important.
After all, you probably have thousands of tasks on your plate and a list of unopened emails and incomplete tasks that, if you looked at them all at once, would answer many of your therapist’s burning questions.
Simply put, when someone comes onto your Instagram profile, the first thing they will look at is your bio. It can influence what people think of you, your brand, whether they head to your website, whether they follow you, among many other things.
That might seem quite scary, but it can also be viewed as an excellent opportunity.
With a clever, engaging, and informative Instagram bio, you can persuade new followers to become members, convince those who are just browsing to start following you, and engage with repeat customers.
Instagram Bio Ideas You Can Pinch (You’re Welcome)
Right then, now that’s out of the way, let’s look at some effective Instagram bios that you can take inspiration from. Feel free to copy the layouts, just don’t forget to change them to your name, or you might get a few interesting direct messages.
She starts with her name and follows it with her job title. We also like that she uses the line (｜) element to create an obvious split.
Below that information is a clear headline outlining what her business is, before following that up with a sparing use of relevant emojis and finishing with a link to her course, which in this instance is her CTA and where she wants leads to go to convert them into clients.
Now, let’s look at another of our podcast alumni. Tish Fletcher is a certified health coach, but you already know that as it’s the first thing you can see in her Instagram bio.
A lot of Tish’s bio is similar to Maddison’s, but there are some differences. They both have a name and title, followed by a headline, but then Tish’s profile differs slightly. She takes a more personal approach while still including plenty of information about the services she provides, mixed in with eye-catching emojis.
Other things to consider
As you can see, there are plenty of things you can take from both of these bios. Alongside the aspects highlighted, you also want to make sure your personality shines through in your bio, but without overusing emojis, as that can seem less professional in most instances (from my experience, very few people want to work with a business that has the eggplant emoji in their bio (unless you sell organic vegetables).
Finally, always check your bio for any grammatical errors for obvious reasons, and take advantage of special keys such as “｜*+-” to make your bio look clear and professional.
