When Deonna happened upon her idea for a business, she was ready almost immediately to unleash its awesomeness upon the world.

Tiring of never being able to find hair extensions that matched her natural hair, she set out to have some made. When they arrived and blended perfectly, Deonna knew she’d stumbled across something that thousands of women like her would also find valuable.

After laying the groundwork and setting things in motion for her burgeoning business, Deonna announced her product online:

“I went online, uploaded a video, and said ‘Hey guys, look at my hair extensions. Finally I have something that matches my actual hair pattern.’ That day, I got so many sales. Within 3 weeks, I made over $30k in sales. Which is still crazy to think about!

The overwhelmingly positive response only confirmed that Deonna’s business idea was every bit as awesome as she suspected. But with that much opportunity on the line, it soon became clear that YouTube was not the most efficient way to engage with potential customers:

“If anyone knows anything about YouTube videos, for quality, you have to edit -- put the music behind it, get great lighting. I didn’t have time for that. That’s why Instagram was a great outlet, because it was like an immediate photo, quick edit, upload, and go.
